Doctor Moses Holbrook
Dr. Holbrook was present at Fort Pierce on the night that it burned (December
11, 1843.) His homestead was next to Captain
Burnham on the south. He had come to the area from Charleston, South
Carolina. Considered a talented physician he served the community for a
time as a circuit riding doctor. Described as a man of powerful build,
elderly, bald and usually hatless. He played flute and brought a valuable
library with him to the settlement. He died after two years and was buried
in an unmarked grave on the bluff.
